Seven kids - Tai, Sora, Matt, Izzy, Mimi, TK and Joe - are on summer camp, when it starts to snow. The kids run outside and can't understand what's going on - why is it snowing in summer? The sky goes psycho and seven bolts are shot into the earth - small digital devices, or "digivices". The kids each grab a digivice, and suddenly a huge wave appears. All the kids are swept up and away, to goodness knows where... Tai awakens to find himself in a forest with a strange pink creature sitting on his chest. It's Koromon, his new "Digimon" - digital monster - friend and partner. Tai soon finds Izzy, who has Motimon, his own Digimon. The kids wonder where they are (the Digimon tell them it's the Digiworld, which hardly helps them) and when Tai tries to find his bearings, he attracts the attention of a giant bad Digimon called Kuwagamon, who attacks them. The kids run away, and are found by Sora who tells them when it's safe to come out. Sora has her own Digimon, Yokomon. Then Tokomon runs up to them with TK, followed by Matt with Tsunomon. Joe appears soon after, screaming about how some horrible creature (Bukamon) is chasing him. ^_^. The kids wonder where Mimi is - they soon find out when she runs screaming (with her new Digimon partner, Tanemon) from Kuwagamon. Everyone runs for their lives, and when they're cornered (on the edge of a cliff), their Digimon run to fight. Although they're badly beaten, they won't give up. Suddenly, the digivices that the kids still have with them, react. All the Digimon "digivolve" - advance to the next level - into bigger, stronger Digimon. Koromon becomes Agumon, Tsunomon Gabumon, Tanemon Palmon, Yokomon Biyomon, Motimon Tentomon, Bukamon Gomamon, and Tokomon Patamon. These stronger Digimon, together, can put up a fight against Kuwagamon. It seems they'll win, but Kuwagamon ends up breaking away the part of the cliff they're standing on. They all fall into the water and are swept downstream away from Kuwagamon with the help of Gomamon's fish friends. Apparently the kids are the first humans to ever be in Digiworld. Digivolving is a difficult process, and to do it successfully the Digimon had to share their child's energy. The kids travel around, hoping to find a way home, and every now and then encounter larger, dangerous Digimon who are usually friendly but seem to attack them. All of these good-Digimon-turned-bad have one thing in common - black gears somehow embedded into them. These gears control their actions and turn them vicious. A well-aimed attack from one of the kids' digivolved Digimon is usually enough to dislodge the gear and turn them 'good' again. In these battles, all the kids' Digimon learn to temporarily digivolve, except for Patamon, the smallest. These black gears are being commanded by Devimon, a bad Digimon, with the help of Ogremon and a mind-controlled Leomon. Devimon heard he would be destroyed by the Digidestined, which is that very group of seven kids. So he set out to defeat them. The final battle has all the digivolved Digimon take on Devimon, but he easily outpowers all of them. He goes to kill Patamon, but it digivolves in the nick of time into Angemon, Devimon's 'good' counterpart. Angemon beats Devimon but the battle takes a lot of his energy, and afterwards he devolves into an egg. (Digivolved Digimon often devolve when they run out of energy or are badly beaten up.) The Digidestined thought that after beating Devimon they could go back home, but the hologram of a man, Jennai, tells them that there are other bad Digimon in the Digiworld, and they should go find tags and crests so their Digimon can digivolve again and be strong enough to fight. So they set off on a new adventure. Tai gets crest of courage first, and decides this means he has to protect everyone by himself. He puts a lot of pressure on Agumon/Greymon, but he can't digivolve properly. Joe gets the crest of reliability. Mimi gets the crest of sincerity. Izzy and Matt get their crests together (knowledge and friendship respectively) in the middle of the night in a well, wandering into danger in the process. Izzy wants the crest 'cos he's curious to know what Kabuterimon will digivolve into. Matt wants the crest so he can learn more about himself, and 'digivolve' as a person. TK gets the crest of hope, and Sora is last of all with the crest of love. During this little saga of crest-finding, the Digidestined are being pursued by an ugly, stupid-looking, stupid-sounding villain called Etemon. He looks like a person in a badly-made monkey suit, he talks and acts like a bad Elvis impersonator, and is generally quite hilarious, although not very intimidating (he IS strong though). While they are searching for Sora's crest, Izzy makes a discovery - the Digiworld is actually linked with their own. It is, in fact, the personification (or Digimonification) of the digital data going through the real Earth, and most people don't even know it exists! This means that in the Digiworld, the kids are basically kilobytes of data floating through, but their bodies here are linked with their flesh-and-blood ones in the real world. Tai doesn't realise this, and assumes that they're like characters in a video game, and thus invincible. So he plunges into dangerous situations without fear, until Izzy and Joe make him realise how dangerous it is. Then Tai realises how close he could have come to killing himself, and he's afraid. Then he shows true courage by confronting this fear, and that sparks a reaction in his crest. Greymon digivolves into Metalgreymon, and fights Etemon. Both of them are sucked into a portal. Something strange has happened, and Tai finds himself, with Koromon - Metalgreymon dedigivolved into Agumon's first form - in his own world! He goes home and finds that it's the day that it was when he first got sucked into the Digiworld. But Koromon is proof that it wasn't some bizarre dream. At home, Tai's little sister, Kari, comes and says hi to him and Koromon. He's amazed that she knows the Digimon's name, but it turns out she has been in the Digiworld before and couldn't tell anyone, because nobody would believe her. (He doesn't seem to ask when and how she went to Digiworld, remarkable lack of curiousity in my opinion.) Note: It turns out later that Tai's assumption that she was in the digital world is false. She remembered Koromon's name from long ago from an incident which will come up later. On TV, there are reports of weather disturbances and other freaks of nature, and Tai/Kari see Digimon they've faced in the past on the TV screen! Apparently the cameras didn't notice them, and Kari is happy that "someone else can see them too". Tai is amazed. Then he gets a static-y message on his computer from Izzy, telling him that if he gets the message, he shouldn't come back to the Digiworld because it was too dangerous, and he should just stay where he's safe. This makes Tai doubly worried. He is in the real world but his friends are all still back in the Digiworld, and now he wants to go and rescue him. But his digivice is still and won't react or do anything. He tries to just relax around the house but it's hard. So it seems that either Digimon and the real world are becoming confused and intertwined, or that Digimon were ALWAYS in the real world but only certain people could see them. Tai is worried and then sees Ogremon on the street, who no humans notice. Koromon has to fight it, and manages to digivolve into Agumon as the digivice reacts. With the reaction of the digivice, a huge dimensional rift opens up and all the Digimon - and Tai - are sucked back in. Tai knows he has to go and try to help his friends, and stick with Digimon, although Kari begs him to either stay with her, or let her come too. It is a hard choice to make. And back at their house, there is another digivice on the table... Kari's. Tai returns to find Tokomon, TK's Digimon, alone with TK's crest and digivice. Weeks have passed since Tai was back in his world. In that time, everyone started to disagree how best to do things, and they all split up. In the end, Matt and TK were the only ones left together. Matt went off briefly with Gabumon to look for something, promising to come back in a few hours. TK waited for a whole week, trusting in his brother. A new Digimon, Demidevimon, a former denizen of Etemon, supposedly, claimed that he had met Matt and he had said TK was a crybaby and he didn't want to see them again. Tokomon is mad at Demidevimon and sure that Matt wouldn't say such a thing, and starts fighting Demidevimon. TK gets mad at Tokomon for 'being rude' and walks out on him with his new friend, Demidevimon. Tai helps Tokomon and TK to reunite, and decides they have to go look for the others. Demidevimon brings mushrooms for them all to eat, but Sora, hiding behind a bush, whispers to Agumon that the mushrooms erase memory, which they do. Demidevimon is truly no friend of theirs, he is working for some higher power, who is typically peeved at his failure. Tokomon digivolves and as Patamon, battles Demidevimon and wins. TK and Tai go on with their Digimon, following readings on their digivices, and find Joe and Matt. TK is very happy to find his brother. Joe and Gomamon had bought a meal a while ago and found that their money was useless at the restaurant. The restaurant owner forced them to work in the kitchen to pay off their debts. Every time Joe made a mistake, the owner tacked more time onto his debt. Matt happened to find him, when he left TK, and was going to go back to TK, promising Joe he would return to help him pay off the debt. But the restaurant owner, being told that Matt should not be allowed to leave, said Joe "might meet with a nasty accident in the kitchen" if he wasn't around. Matt recognised it as a threat and had to stay, but Joe kept breaking things and they were there for weeks while Matt was just worried about his brother. Of course, this is all the work of Demidevimon; he wants Joe and Matt to have to stay there forever. And he wants the digidestined to be thrown as enemies against each other. He suggests to Matt that Joe is deliberately breaking things so that Matt will have to stay with him. Matt can't believe that Joe would be so selfish, but starts to believe it after so much stress. It is really Demidevimon that is tripping Joe up, sabotaging him and giving him uncharacteristic clumsiness. Sora (unknown to anyone else) saves him from one particularly bad sabotage with potatoes. After meeting with TK and Tai, Matt and Joe soon decide they have to leave, but it turns into a battle with restaurant management. Garurumon digivolves into Weregarurumon to win. The group travels on and find two different readings. They split up to find more of their friends. Matt and TK find Izzy, who had been searching for Jennai and more answers, but had encountered a freaky Digimon called Vanemon who wanted Izzy's curiousity for his collection. With his curiousity gone, Izzy turned into a mindless vegetable, and got mad at Tentomon for trying to talk him around. After Tentomon back-digivolved TWICE (to his baby form), he managed to remind Izzy of his old, curious self. Izzy began to realise how important his thirst for knowledge was, and stole his curiousity back. Kabuterimon digivolved into Megakabuterimon to fight Vademon (who was arguing with Demidevimon, who wanted Izzy's crest). Tai and Joe find Mimi, who is playing princess. There was a community of small Digimon - Otamamon and Gekomon - whose ruler had been in a deep sleep for many years, and only a beautiful sung song would wake him up, and none of them had appropriate voices. Demidevimon told them that Mimi had a beautiful voice, and her voice did the trick - the ruler started to wake up! But she stopped halfway through. The small Digimon tried everything to win her favour so she would finish the song, but she never did, and they made her a princess. Mimi had the lifestyle she had always wanted, and Demidevimon was confident that she would stay there forever until her crest lost its ability to react. When Tai and Joe came for her, she didn't want to go back to the hassles of travelling, and had them sent away, but after a bad dream and a visit from Sora, she was convinced to go back with them. She sang and woke the huge monster up, but it was ANGRY about its dream being interrupted, and attacked. Agumon digivolved twice, into Metalgreymon, and beat it. The group is now mostly together, and goes to look for Sora. She tries to run away from them, but they track her down. ^_^. She felt bad because her crest wouldn't react... She explains about their crests - she overheard Demidevimon talking to his master about them. She tells them what each of their crests means, and Tai says hers (love) is perfect for her. She angrily protests this - Demidevimon told her she would never be able to use her crest and have it react. She believes this, although she knows Demidevimon is not to be trusted. She thinks of how she doesn't know much of love because even her mother didn't love her - all she cared about was her flower-arranging business, and wanted Sora to quit soccer (which she loved) to help her in the business. Myotismon appears. He is Demidevimon's superior. Biyomon wants to fight. Sora tries to stop her, and suddenly realises the parallel - Biyomon wants to do something but she wants to stop her to protect her. Her mother wanted her to stop soccer because she was afraid of her getting hurt. Maybe she loved her after all...? Sora's crest reacts, and Birdramon digivolves into Garudamon! Myotismon is not easily beaten, being extremely powerful, the big-bad-villain-of-the-moment. He goes back to his castle; he has discovered something. Jennai fills the kids in - an eighth digidestined has been found, in the human world! Unfortunately, Myotismon has also heard of them, and is intending to go to the human world to find them. The current digidestined must go there too to try to find them first! After a lot of struggles, the kids get into Myotismon's castle and make it to the room where a giant door and puzzle stand. Myotismon solved the necessary puzzle to open the door to the other world, and got through with Demidevimon and Gatomon, a nasty female cat Digimon underling who seems more competant than Demidevimon, and very strong. But the door closes before the kids and their Digimon can get through. Jennai takes them to his 'home'. As time runs differently between the digital world and human world, there isn't actually a great hurry for them to get to the human world. They stay there, eat, and rest overnight. Jennai explains the puzzle for the door to the other world; ten cards with pictures of different Digimon, correspond to nine square spaces. The cards must be put in the right positions, the right time, and the one fake card not used. But there is no way of knowing which card is fake. It is imperative that the puzzle is solved correctly the first time - apparently, there are many different worlds (Mimi freaks out at the thought of an example given - where Digimon and humans swap skin - she doesn't want green Palmon skin!), and any of them could be accessed by incorrect interpretation! Izzy also learns more about the digital world. I'll write some of it here, I think some of it will be relevent.
Jennai also gives/fixes some Digimon system for Izzy's computer. Izzy can bring up files on any Digimon he or the other kids have seen. The kids return to Myotismon's castle and the door, nominating Tai to solve the puzzle, trusting in his ability and decisions. Tai is surprised that they consider him a leader, but passes the buck to Izzy, which is fair enough - Izzy is very good at puzzle solving. Some of Myotismon's henchmen, Dokugumon and some smaller spider Digimon, have started attacking, and while Izzy has solved most of the puzzle, he can't work out which card is the fake one. He leaves that decision to Tai, and under pressure, Tai guesses. And gets it right. ^_^. The kids cross back to their own world, and find themselves at summer camp. The camp was being packed up on account of snow, and everyone's about to leave. Something like a minute has passed since they went into the digital world (one of Mimi's friends comments that she talked to her ten minutes ago, when Mimi babbles about having missed her so much). After some near-misses, the kids remember how to act in their own world, and pass off their Digimon as stuffed toys. Then they con their teacher into having them dropped off at the location (Highton View Terrace) where Jennai showed them Myotismon was. Myotismon can't go out while it's light, but Gatomon takes a copy of the eighth child's crest - which will react when they're nearby - and prowls around searching for this kid. Myotismon also sends out some huge mammoth Digimon that stomps around totalling everything. The kids are at Highton View Terrace and realise something - they all lived here at some stage when they were younger. Tai still lives in the area, but most of the others moved away on account of some mysterious terrorist bombings in the area. More specifically, on the very bridge the group reminisces on! Not long after this, the kids find the Mammothmon and Biyomon digivolves to fight it. Birdramon's attacks don't have much effect, but as they watch the battle rage from the bridge, repressed memories start to activate... Those terrorist bombings, as the police wrote them off as, was a monster attack... two monsters fighting, four years ago... only TK could remember it - I guess when he saw the monsters, he was young enough to still believe in them, so he didn't write it off/suppress the memory so quickly. Garudamon beats the mammoth Digimon, who simply disappears upon defeat. It is rather strange. Through the battle, more memories of that time surfaced ("I'm getting deja vu all over again!" -Mimi), and Tai eventually remembered that he and his baby sister were there, seeing a Greymon fighting a bird Digimon... Koromon comments that Tai DID seem familiar when they met in the Digiworld. All of the kids saw those monsters in that event. Izzy makes the connection - this is the event that ties them all together, their link they have in common - something to indicate why THEY were the digidestined and went to the digital world. Perhaps they were the only people who COULD (or did) see the monsters then? After some mishaps in transportation (including a battle between Ikkakumon and Gesomon, a bad Digimon), the children return to their respective homes. This mostly focuses on Izzy, who sneaks Tentomon into his room, buys a lock for his door (to keep his Digimon secret) and thinks about how he once overheard his parents talking about how he's adopted (they haven't told him). That night, Izzy is the only one awake to receive Jennai's message on his computer that there's an evil Digimon lurking in the bay. Izzy and Tentomon go to check it out, and while Kabuterimon fights Raremon, Izzy's digivice picks up a signal of the eighth child, which is actually Kari's digivice. The digivice followed quite a path, originally being under Kari's bed but batted outside by Miko (the Kamiya's cat), then caught up by another cat, which culminated in a long chase into a parked delivery van. The van's doors shut on Miko (and the digivice) and the digivice ended up halfway across down. Raremon has a cloned tag/crest like the rest of Myotismon's henchmen and it has reacted to the digivice. But Kabuterimon holds him at bay, eventually defeating him. Of course, by now a lot of humans are beginning to realise that monsters are real and running rampant. Izzy follows Miko, who drops the digivice, and just when he (and Demidevimon, who was also searching) is about to stumble across the 'vice, a raven swoops in and flies off with it. The next day, the kids all have a meeting. They are going to go all-out to find this eighth child. Thinking this kid is probably someone they all know, everyone brings their class yearbooks from four years ago, in the hopes that one of the children in there could be the eighth digidestined. Poor Joe gets stuck with the boring task of phoning EVERYONE in the books, while everyone else (with Digimon in various states of disguise) hunt for the kid. They encounter more monsters and more battles along the way, of course. Matt and TK even befriend two of Myotismon's henchmen, who prioritise having fun over being evil, but Myotismon kills them both for their betrayal. (They use the euphenism "banished to Myotismon's dungeon in the digiworld" which is, in my opinion, Not A Very Good Coverup At All.) Matt freaks out that his friends, who tried to protect him, are dead, and his crest reacts... Myotismon battles Weregarurumon and later, Angemon (!) and almost looks as though he will be defeated, but retreats. Gatomon is walking in the park and meets with Kari, who, noting that she doesn't look like an *ordinary* cat, asks if she was a friend of Agumon's. This sets Gatomon suspicious instantly, and she follows Kari home - could she be the eighth child? Gatomon can't bring herself to kill Kari, and is envious of Miko, who gets fawned over by her owner. Gatomon recalls her own past, which didn't involve anyone being nice at all, and from the beginning, she had a strange feeling that she was searching for someone... but she didn't know who... and finally she found Myotismon instead of Kari, and he made her work for him, until she eventually forgot that she was ever looking... Wizardmon, an old friend of Gatomon, finds the eighth digivice in the raven's nest, and gives it to Gatomon. He remembers, even if Gatomon doesn't, that she was once searching for something. Gatomon realises she is the eighth Digimon, and goes to give Kari her digivice. Naturally, Tai and Agumon (who are also home), are suspicious at first, but Gatomon and Wizardmon go to find Kari's REAL tag and crest, which Myotismon has. Myotismon catches them in this act of betrayal, and of course, it culminates in a battle. Myotismon discovers that Gatomon is the eighth Digimon and decides to use her to find out who the eighth child is. He beats Wizardmon up and tosses him in the river, and charges off. And THAT is when chaos breaks out. Myotismon creates a fog around a particular area of the city (where all of the kids, except TK, live) that cuts off most power and technology to that area. He sends many minions to attack the humans and round them up, where they're placed prisoner under Bakemon guards. Some of the digidestined kids are rounded up (with or without their parents), others escape, and Joe and TK are currently at a different place in the city, trying to get back so they can help fight, but all transport systems are down. The people overpower the Bakemon guards with advice from Sora, and are happy to be free, but there is more chaos outside - Darktyrannomon, who attacks Mimi's parents. Togemon tries to fight but is losing, and Myotismon's minions are still doing a lot of damage. Is it the end of the world? Mimi thinks it might be, and desperately wishes there was something she could do. Her crest reacts and Togemon digivolves to Lillymon. Lillymon beats Darktyrannomon, but is no match for Myotismon, who shows up next. Looks like the final stage is being set... Lillymon is defeated but rescued by Birdramon and Sora before she can be killed. More of the kids meet up together. TK and Joe take a ride together on Ikkakumon to get to the fog-shrouded part of the city. In the process, they meet Megaseadramon, who attacks them. Joe saves TK from drowning at the risk of his own life (you would really think Joe would have learned to swim by now, especially with a sea mammal Digimon...) and this fine example of reliability sparks his crest into life. Ikkakumon digivolves to Zudomon, saves the day (and Joe) and they go on to the rest of the digidestined. On their way, they stumble across Wizardmon, who is nearly dead and muttering Gatomon's name while floating on a piece of driftwood. The two kids help him and he gives them a tag and crest - the real ones belonging to the eighth child! Meanwhile, Izzy is being instructed by Jennai. The Bakemon are coming for his parents, but he manages to construct a digital barrier just in time that protects them. Knowing his parents are now safe, he runs off with Tentomon to help his friends. Jennai says the source of Myotismon's fog is in the TV tower (where Matt's father works) and Izzy goes to check it out. And that TV tower is the site of the beginning of their toughest battle yet... Kari gives herself up to protect Matt and Sora, who are being hurt (along with their Digimon) while trying to protect HER. She is taken to Myotismon, and Gatomon (who is there to identify the eighth child). Wizardmon, Joe and TK meet up with the other kids and Wizardmon heals Lillymon, who was under some weird effect from Myotismon's earlier attack. The final battle begins. All the Digimon are in Ultimate form (except Angemon), and Myotismon goes to attack Kari and Gatomon. Wizardmon jumps in the way and is killed instead. :( Gatomon is crying and Kari's crest reacts. Gatomon digivolves to Angewomon, and with everyone else's help, beats Myotismon. But is he defeated? Apparently not. The group has the chance for a quick break, and Izzy gets a computer message from Jennai, who has decoded a prophecy for him. This prophecy relates to Myotismon. The kids go to check on their families. Izzy meets up with his parents, who finally decide to tell him he's adopted. They all decide it's not important and they're still a family. ^_^. Joe finally gets the chance to go home and finds his older brother Jim hiding (the Digimon had trashed their house). They talk a little and Jim says Joe should follow what he wants to do instead of what Dad wants him to do (be a doctor). Matt and TK's parents are also okay (their father has been around all this time, and their mother was left back when TK and Joe went on Ikkakumon), but everyone else's are out cold, and under Myotismon's influence. To cut a long story short, things get rapidly worse and Myotismon has somehow digivolved to VenomMyotismon, who is Extremely Powerful and bad news. He kills Demidevimon and then attacks the digidestined. To beat him, the prophecy states that angels have to shoot arrows at their charge's most loved ones, or something like that. So, Tai and Matt nervously agree to be shot with Angemon and Angewomon's attacks. This inspires Agumon and Gabumon to suddenly warp-digivolve to their new, Mega forms, Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon. Pretty cool. These two, with the help from everyone else and the power of the kids' crests, manage to finally defeat VenomMyotismon. The battle destroys much of the city. Everyone (except Joe) is reunited with their parents, but the weirdness is not over yet. Strange rifts appear in the sky, and through them are visible huge, upside-down islands. This is creepy and nobody knows what's wrong. When planes go to investigate, they are destroyed. Birdramon-Garudamon and Kabuterimon save one plane from crashing after a Digimon flies from the sky-rifts and destroys the plane wings. A few Digimon have appeared again, and are destroying whatever they touch, yet they cannot be attacked; Kabuterimon's Electroshocker passes right through them. Izzy is wondering what's going on and suddenly recognises something in the sky that looks like an upside-down Infinity Mountain. They all realise - this is the digital world. There must be more evil inside there, and they have to return to the digiworld in order to save both worlds. Again. It is difficult for them to leave their parents now that they've finally got them safe, but they realise there is no other choice. They are all prepared to be brave, and so, the kids (including Kari) and their Digimon use their digivices to return... Part 2 - find out what happens next ^_^.
