![]() ![]() Digimon 'Diary'
Tue May 30 - Tai/Agumon find Tokomon (who later digivolves) and TK I'm confused! I missed yesterday's episode (Digimon plays on each weekday morning), but saw Friday's. And today's episode seemed to follow directly from Friday's; the start of the episode showed recap of Friday's ep. Either yesterday's ep was way off topic, or they stuffed things up again (Cheez TV never played the ep with Etemon's defeat), or I'm just totally confused. Anyway, I thought Friday's ep was good (Tai went back to his world) but THIS one was even better! It keeps getting better, I can't wait to see what happens next. Something bad must have happened to Matt, I think. I'm a bit worried about him. Poor TK, it's so sad when people wait and wait but nobody comes. But I think something bad must have happened to stop Matt from returning. I know this ep showed some bad sides of characters' characters, but I don't think Matt would have left his brother even if everyone else did. Maybe he's hurt. Or maybe HE took mushrooms. Sora recognised the mushrooms, so maybe other people have had experience with them. And TK said he'd rather have Tai as a big brother. That made me sad. :( Demidevimon... I guess the devolved form of Devimon. THAT spells recipe for disaster if anything does! Patamon's its counterpart too, and they fought, that was cool. Wed May 31 - TK and Tai meet up with Joe and Matt, who are at a restaurant working off Joe's debts AAGH! Even better! My fave ep so far. Wow, it couldn't have been more perfect. My fave human characters are Joe and Matt. My fave Digimon are Tentomon, Gomamon and Garurumon. I haven't seen eps that really focus on Matt, just one where he tried to pound Tai's face in for implying there were more important things that looking for TK. ^_^. Eee! Matt plays a mouth organ! That's SO COOL! I felt sorry for him. He stayed so that Joe would be safe, and every broken plate was like torture 'cos he was so badly wanting to find his brother. And Joe was cool too, especially at the end of the episode. Interesting things about his character...
-His class voted him "most likely to chicken out". He laughs that "I sure showed them", but sounds kind of serious too. I think that's an awful 'honour' to bestow on someone. Poor guy. He's not a chicken at all. Why is Sora sneaking around? I know that everyone split up, but they all acted the same around each other. Well, except TK, who was a bit aggro after being abandoned by everyone. I know Sora is doing secret things to save her friends, but why does she have to do it in secret? It reminds me of where someone who has been outcast, or declares themselves an enemy of their former friends, stays around to help them (I've seen such themes on shows before) in secret. But why should Sora have to do that? It worries me. You know, I can't actually imagine all the people in the group wandering off alone like they did. Some I can, like Sora, who is strong willed and would be worried about Tai, wanting to follow her gut instincts. But the younger kids, I can't see just leaving by themselves, especially Mimi. Tai strikes me as a very cheerful person. I didn't really notice that before. The Garurumon-Weregarurumon digivolution scene was tres cool. Joe actually CLIMBED ONTO THE ROOF and then dropped onto that stupid cook monster to make him drop TK for him. Now THAT'S guts. I think even some of the others would be reluctant to do that. Maybe he felt he had to prove himself again. The last few weeks would have been a terrible strain on his self-esteem, or what little exists of it. And I don't know why websites or people talking about Digimon call Matt "Mr Cool" or something. I've never seen ANYTHING that implies he cares much about image, or shunning unpopular people, or that sort of thing. Well, except a comment of his to Joe ages ago, "I guess you're pretty cool after all", but MOST of the group thought Joe was being too overly-cautious and wimpy, not just Matt. Matt thinks of how his friends, working together, could beat the monsters. And how Joe, his friend, sacrificed himself without complaining. That's friendship, and Matt shows all through the episode how much he cares for his friends, even Joe, who he hasn't seemed to have a great deal to do with before. That's when his crest reacts. I like this. Prediction time... I guess Matt and TK will find Izzy, and Tai-Joe will find Mimi, next episode (or next two episodes). I like making guesses. Because they like making interesting pairs re. personalities, and Joe is sort of a thinker, and so is Izzy, so Joe's group might get Mimi instead. Just a guess. ^_^. But it might be interesting to see Matt with Mimi, I don't know how they relate to each other. *shrugs* Thur 1 June - Vanemon goes after Izzy's curiousity, his most valuable gift Sure enough, it was Matt and TK who met up with Izzy. I wonder what Jennai will say. This episode was quite good too. Weird how Digimon's early forms don't resemble their later ones at all. Like Tentomon, Kabuterimon and Megakabuterimon all resemble each other, they're bug-things. But the baby forms are, like most others, just flabby formless blobs! I think Izzy's voice actor is very good. I'm annoyed though. I love Digimon being on in the mornings, and at this time. It wakes me up, it gives me a reason to get up, and it's good incentive; every time I go to bed I can look forward to the next morning instead of groaning myself out of bed. But now they're scrapping the series and putting it on Sunday mornings. That's sleep-in time, or church! Mreh. I feel sorry for Demidevimon. It reminds me of someone. Maybe Jamapi, but I don't really know. Maybe Jadeite, but I'm surprised it's still alive by now. Fri 2 June - Mimi turns princess Wow, Mimi can be a cow. She's so cute (in appearance) though. But she really is only a little girl. It's weird. I like her though. Sora, hm. I'm still not sure as to the reason for the secrecy of her nature, but she obviously isn't being deceitful. Maybe she just doesn't want to tie herself with a group yet, just wants to be a free agent and be around to help. Or maybe she wants to do caring, loving acts in the hope that her crest of love will respond and help Birdramon evolve. Well, it's a theory anyway. This was a good episode, but I still can't help wondering how Matt would have reacted to Mimi acting like that. ^_^.
Tai: Maybe she wants to chop off our heads. The singing scenes! Those guys trying to sing! Man! I didn't think it was POSSIBLE for someone to be so off-key! So hilarious though. Probably Joe was the best, but he cracked me up too. Hahahaha! I am a bit surprised that Mimi did end up agreeing to go with the guys. Back to an aimless existance of not enough food and wandering around in extreme weather. Sun 4 June - Myotismon is introduced and they find out about the 8th child (two eps) Reggaepalmon! Hahahaha! That's cute. I guess my guess about Sora wasn't too far off... it's weird but Birdramon's digivolved form (I forgot its name) turned into a plant Digimon. That's kind of incoherant, isn't it?
Mimi: Sorry we're late. Joe fell in the river.
Agumon: Wow, Matt's like a grown-up. It's around now that I'm again annoyed at spoilers. See, I went to a character profile page to look up some characters and Kari/Gatomon were there in plain sight. I guess it's stupid of me to assume people are not going to put profiles of main characters up just because not everyone has seen that far, but now I know Gatomon is gonna somehow join the good guys or something, and I'd rather not. I wonder what'll happen to Demidevimon... he got stuck on that side of the door with all the kids and their Digimon! I think he's in for a bit of trouble... :( The training group was funny. Numemon sure was liberal with the soda. ^_^. (If that WAS soda...) I have a lot of trouble remembering Digimon's names, especially if they're only said once or twice. That bowling ball with ugly lips cracked me up. ^_^; It annoys me, now I have to wait a whole week to find out what happens next. Tai is very worried/upset about not getting through the door, more than the others. Does he suspect it's his sister, or is he just frustrated that all their efforts were for nothing? We shall see... next Sunday. >_<. Sun 11 June - the kids learn how to get back to their world, and do so, then realising their common link (two eps) A week can seem a long time, especially between climaxes. It's annoying. Saturday night, I went to bed early-ish (well, 9:30), with my Pokemon Pikachu (aka alarm clock) right next to my pillow. I was careful with my sleeping positions so I didn't know the alarm onto the floor, or smother my face so I wouldn't be able to hear it. I kept thinking "I should go to sleep quickly so I'll be able to wake up early tomorrow", which of course meant I lay awake for hours. So of course, what happens, I wake up late! Well, not LATE, exactly 7am, but the alarm was set for 6:50. What's with that? Same as what happened last week, I woke up a coupla minutes after the alarm. I wanted time to go and set the VCR, and then rush back to see the start of Digimon, instead of missing a coupla minutes. Anyway. Life is harsh, hahah. Yay, Joe recognised halibut! He's a smart guy but he's usually eclipsed by Izzy who speaks "nerdtalk" (the typical "cartoon smart guy" speak, with lots of convoluted words and technical language). Three types of Digimon; Vaccine, Virus, Data. I guess vaccine would be Digimon like the digidestined's... virus would be like Etemon or Devimon... Data neutral. I'm not sure how one can be neutral. Most Digimon seem to be on one 'side' or the other. Maybe like Merumon. He was kinda fearsome, but didn't do much damage naturally. Jennai said that Digimon had attributes, which were their attacks, their ability to digivolve, whether they were good and evil... and he also said that he lacked these attributes, which meant he was not a Digimon. But was he a human? He mentioned being in the human world. And he had fish from the human world. Does this mean Jennai is neither good nor evil? And that Digimon who aren't 'data' are thus fully one or the other? What about Gatomon, then? Doesn't she 'turn good'? I guess I don't mind the spoiler a while ago about Kari being the eighth child. Now that we approach it, it becomes pretty obvious. The fact that the stupid blabbermouth narrator MENTIONED at the end of the ep a while back that Kari would be entering the digital world soon. The fact that she had a digivice. The fact that she was shown to be at the bridge with Tai, who later commented that the eighth child must've been there too. They all refer to the 8th kid as "he". I guess that's a smart move. Try to alleviate our suspicions. The spoiler about Gatomon being her Digimon was very annoying though... I'm listening to this Japanese Digimon song from season two; the mp3 'label' says "Armor Shikers - Zettai All Right". There is a lot of shouting throughout the song. I think it must be the Digimon shouting attack phrases and 'shinka' (digivolutions) phrases. But I can't make out much coherance. Maybe I should learn their names first, that might help. ^^;; I hear "shinkaaaa!" a lot. And "neko panchi!". That's cuteness. ^_^. Anyway, these eps were quite funny, especially after they returned to their own world and had to cover up. Oh, btw, when I post quotes they're pretty inaccurate, just how I remember them.
Quote: Cracked me up. Especially when the teacher went on to say that the 'toys' were filthy and should be thrown out. The kids all agreed enthusiastically, and their Digimon weren't impressed. ^_^.
I think this snippet of conversation: When the kids were trying to convince their teacher to let them off at Highview Terrace or whatever it was called, it was another little situation that demonstrated their personalities. Tai ran up to ask, optimistically, as soon as the idea occurred to him. When that didn't work, Matt went into this little spiel (he's not a very good actor, but darn funny) about how TK would be so upset if they couldn't, since that was where they lived before their parents split up, and TK played along, starting to cry. The teacher was starting to crack, when Joe came in with the sort of serious voice that adults like and trust, saying that as an upperclassman, he would take responsibility for the group. The teacher was then convinced, saying that if a "reliable guy like Joe" was going, it was okay. It's weird though... I guess they all really do have their own strengths. In the digital world, Joe wasn't much of a leader, and he wasn't taken seriously all the time. Sometimes other people thought of better things, or had better outlooks. But back in this world, he was the oldest, smart, and one of those responsible students. So he could be a bit of a leader in his own right. In some ways, being older does give him an advantage, like the second episode today, he did take charge in some small ways, even if it was just of the conversation. Mimi ditched Palmon for her own friends. :( I like it how constant digivolutions and devolutions take place (though why isn't this the case for the bad guys?). I like this because it means Tentomon's in-training form (I forget what it's called) will probably become Tentomon again. I like Tentomon, but its prior form has this voice... ^^;;;; Honestly, isn't Garurumon's digivolution into Weregarurumon the coolest thing ever? No other animation scene can compare. Although Garudomon's "Wing Flame" is kinda funky, it's still not a patch on this... If Digimon can only digivolve through digivices, how are there all these other ultimate Digimon (who don't devolve), including another Greymon? In Primary Village, a baby Digimon digivolved to an in-training stage, where it could live a normal life. But some digivolutions can only occur via those digivices, can't they? Are there SPECIES of Digimon? I guess there are; babies seem alike, I guess they can vary in digivolutions? Like Greymon can become Skullgreymon or Metalgreymon. By species, I mean wouldn't they have families, others of their kind? If they hatch from eggs, wouldn't someone have to lay those eggs? Frigimon once mentioned to Tai that he had seen "a Gabumon", implying there are more Gabumon species somewhere, for him to be able to recognise one. Oh, and of course, there are groups of Numemon and such. Then do 'our' Digimon have families? Friends? Others of their kind somewhere? Will they meet them? As for Digimon that are in-training, most of them don't have limbs, and the kids just carry them around. Umm. How do they move by themselves? Just bounce? I think Koromon bounced around at some stage, but Tsunomon looks a bit more solid; I think it would bruise itself if it tried. Ehh, I don't get it. I want Ikkakumon to digivolve some time. THAT would be cool. ^_^. Gomamon needs more screen time, more talking time. Didn't he say like ten words in both episodes combined. ^^;; Koromon said that it "must have been another Koromon" that Tai met. Then five seconds later, he says that when he did meet Tai, he felt like he met him before. What's with that?! Is this gonna be explained, or is it one of those weird, unjustified statements? (Don't answer these questions, anyone who reads the page; I like to learn things for myself, I hate spoilers.) So, the plot thickens. I think people who insist that Digimon sucks, is boring or is a pale imitation of Pokemon, are mad or misguided. Of course, we're all entitled to our opinions, but I've actually heard people say the plot of Pokemon is better than Digimon. Pokemon's plot? What plot?! ^^;; The plot here is actually much more interesting than "serious" anime. By "serious", I mean what those puristic anime-niacs think are "real anime". That's the (*cough*annoying*cough*) type of person who says Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z, and indeed, most anime that goes on TV, is not "real" anime, and the only stuff that should be taken seriously is subtitled stuff with heavy plot/cultural references/busty women, etcetera. Stuff like, I dunno, Escaflowne, Lain, Evangelion (to a lesser extent)... I guess they come to mind as these "serious anime fan's" choices, y'know. Well, I think Digimon's plotline is great. I would like to see the show in Japanese... I've been finding a bit of their music, I just got Yamato (Matt)'s image song, Walk on the Edge. Oooh, I love it! I just keep playing it, rather compulsively. ^^;;; I want to find Joe's, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere... Sorry, I went off-topic. What I meant to say was, while I'd like to see the show in Japanese, I like it in English. I like the plotline. I like the characters. I like the humour and the developments. I like the animation and art style. I like the voices (well, 95% of them). I love the music! Well, I'm talking about Japanese music mostly, because I don't notice instrumentals that much... only English Digisongs I know of are the theme song and Hey Digimon. Hey Digimon, well... it's a bit cheesy, but I don't mind it really. The singing kinda reminds me of Barenaked Ladies or something. ^_^;; The characters! Oh, I love the characters! Tai, who has great character in himself, Joe, my animated double, Matt, my other favourite, TK, everyone's little brother, Sora, straightforward and practical, Izzy, sometimes the only one who asks the questions I want answered, and Mimi. Heh, Mimi. She's cute, she often sounds semi-hysterical though. Not sure of my thoughts on her. She said today she was trying to be less selfish. That's good! I got the impression through today's episodes that a few things were changed from the Japanese version, maybe a lot of things. Just like speech and stuff, what the characters said. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Maybe reading things like those pages cataloguing all the modifications to Sailormoon and Dragonball Z have warped me... Again, I really hate my inability to remember names. I forgot their teacher's name. I forgot the mammoth Digimon's name. And so on. Oh yeah, and turns out Demidevimon WAS on the other side of the door when it closed; I was wrong. Darn. ^^; Fri 16 June - same as above It was a good idea to tape episodes; tides me over until I can see new ones! Yeah, basically I just watched those last two again. I was wondering about something... when Tai was in his world last time, by himself, Izzy managed to get through to his computer and warned him not to come back to the digital world. Why was that? Izzy wasn't in any real danger at the time. Or was he under Vanemon's influence and just blankly told Tai not to bother? Patamon's voice is sooo cute. ^_^. I kinda wish the Digimon would speak more. Some of them, it's hard to work out their personality. Although I do like focus on the kids. Joe is always pushing his glasses up. And what was that thing about him crying his eyes out? I think something was lost in translation there. Would you really make some bad joke about "if that's a car, it sure has a lot of trunk space" when some enormous, bellowing creature with large teeth is about to trample your car? Sun July 16 - Myotismon hasn't been defeated - he's more powerful than ever, and the kids have to fulfill a prophesy to defeat him... then they return to the digital world Okay, I missed a few weeks... anyway, I'm not sure I like the way the series is headed. I like serious, deep sorta stuff but it's a bit... dark... for my liking. If you've read my religious-rant thing on this same site, you'll know what I mean.* Still, I don't want to give up my fandom so easily. I guess I'll wait until next week. If things don't improve by then, I'll try to cease fandom - by that I mean webpages, hanging out at forums, writing fanfics (yeah, I started fanficking this last week ^_^.), etc... As for the GOOD elements of these eps... I did like all the scenes of the kids with their families. It was nice that Joe finally got to see his family (well, his brother) again before he left. Joe was most cool in these two eps. I imagine he has changed quite a bit since he's been in the digital world. I also liked the scene where Matt and Tai had to agree to let themselves get shot. You could tell that they were both pretty scared. It was a sweet scene, and NO, I don't believe in Taito. ^^;; If I believed in that, I could also believe that Joe was dating Sora and/or Mimi, that... actually, I won't go any further, it gets gross. -_-. Also, the amount of digivolving in these eps got kind of tedious. Agumon warp-digivolved to its Mega form, Wargreymon, and Gabumon to Metalgarurumon, and it was a long (kinda cool-looking, but only the first time) transformation. Then, the episode ended, the next one began, and we had to sit through that again. -_-; *this 'diary' was originally posted on Anime Jigsaw Mon August 14 - Joe and Mimi, split off from the rest of the group, meet Saberleomon, Metaletemon and Ogremon, while the other kids beat Puppetmon Well, obviously I didn't stop watching the series, and I'm glad 'cos it's getting really good. Joe was good in these eps, a real nice guy. I don't think I've ever seen him cry before, which is interesting 'cos he's supposed to be the big wimp, but Matt and Izzy and TK etc have all cried more than he has. I'm glad Mimi and Joe went off together. They're good together - not as a couple or anything (although they might be), but as friends. It's strange, but it seems natural those two should go off together, they always seemed a little distant from the rest of the group. And they don't fight or argue or tease each other. And I guess not all vaccine Digimon are totally evil... you wouldn't think this could be so, I thought such attributes were what made them Digimon. I thought it was most cool that Zudomon could beat Metaletemon. He's pretty strong for an Ultimate. Anyway, I guess everyone has a weakness. Too bad digivolving didn't improve the monkey's singing. ^_^. Sun August 20 - Kari gets sick so Tai's group takes refuge in a city, consequently confronting and defeating Machinedramon You know something? I don't like being called a Cheezoid. (The show that hosts Digimon - Cheez TV - refers to their viewers as Cheezoids. I think there's something wrong with that. ^_^;) Anyway, as for these episodes... I think Kari is quite pretty, although I'm not sure about this whole light thing. It's strange. My favourite part of both these episodes was Tai. He got all aggro... it was cool when he attacked Izzy, mostly because Izzy is usually so calm and easy to get along with, and he refused to fight back. I should say interesting more than cool, but it was a strong scene. And his flashbacks, too. Kari seems like a really sweet kid. She was sick but all Tai could think about was playing soccer, so when he was supposed to take care of her, he took her with him and played with her. She kicked the ball badly and he was correcting her, when he realised she collapsed. Turned out she had pneumonia and spent a while in hospital. Tai's mother was really upset and mad at Tai, "do you know what you've done?!" and even slapped him. When Kari finally got home, the first words she said were: "I'm sorry I can't kick the ball very well, you'll probably never want to play with me again." That's so sad. :( Tai (in the present) realises how selfless his sister is, and how she went to the digital world not even thinking about her self but about everyone else. And even when she had a fever and was feeling awful, she didn't say anything until she couldn't walk any more, because she didn't want to slow the others down. When Tai ran at Izzy and punched him for daring to suggest they rest for a while (as opposed to endlessly search for Kari), wasn't it exactly like when Matt attacked Tai (in Sub-Zero Ice Punch) for daring to suggest they take priority of saving the digital world over finding TK? Sora had some good quotes in these episodes. I felt a little sorry for Gatomon, she must have felt pretty helpless. Hey, did anyone else notice that when TK was looking after Kari in the sewer, there was "TOEI" graffitied on the wall behind them? I guess Toei does make Digimon after all (I wasn't sure). ^_^. Sun September 3 - the kids face off against Piedmon, and then discover the real source of evil: Apocalymon Oooh. @_@. These were very good episodes, I thought. Thoroughly enjoyed both of them, except for the whole "let's ALL digivolve from rookie into ultimate/mega" thing they had going at the end. I don't think I could have taken much more of that digivolution music. ^_^;; I thought Apocalymon was very interesting, the first "interesting" villain on the show - because all the previous villains, while having some degree of personality, were fairly generic bad guys. Fairly simply evil. As such, it is strange that the source of all this villainy - Apocalymon - actually had a reason for being evil. It made him less so, like someone to pity more than hate. One thing I didn't like is that they tried to compromise him a bit; sometimes he was kind of joking around. This didn't seem to suit someone who is going to bring about the ruin of both worlds, although I admit it made me laugh when he shouted at Izzy to shut up (*laughs at the memory*) and later said "hang on, why am I laughing, I'm supposed to be depressed!". And when he's introducing himself he refers to the green and red pipes running from him and says he's "complete with hot and cold water". Sorry, that's Just Wrong. ^_^;; It does happen every now and then, where people react or say things very contrary to what they ought to, due to human nature, or Digimon nature. It brings to mind the way Tai was saying "forget the sunscreen, looks like surf's up!" when this huge wave appeared from nowhere and started bearing down on them. I mean, in reality you'd just scream, or cut off your sentence, or at least not sound so darn normal? It brings to mind the way Mammothmon was totalling a street, and some guy yelled "if that's a car, it sure has a lot of trunk space!". Yes, very nice pun (>_<.) but would you really say that when this giant monster with large teeth was bearing down on you? I mean, half a second later the guy dove out the car because Mammothmon stepped on his car and crushed it. I know I've made this point before, but still. ^_^; It brings to mind when Matt's father was watching Venommyotismon destroying the city, and place his children's life in peril, and he said "I wish I'd brought my camcorder". I mean, I know it could be the whole weird-human-psyche thing going on, the "people don't always react the way you expect them to", but still... So, I did think things could have been handled a little better, but overall these two episodes were handled very effectively. It really showed the desperation and fear when the kids were running away from Piedmon. The way Gomamon wanted to stay and fight. The way Joe, although being scared of heights, helped all the smaller kids, and his Digimon, to trapeze their way across a dangerous and terrible cavern, leaving himself on the other side with nobody to help him. The way TK, Kari and Patamon looked so tiny as they climbed the rope, probably knowing that it was inevitably futile but trying to hold onto their lives. The way MagnaAngemon's voice was so cool. ^_^. And it was funny how when their bodies were disintegrating before their eyes, Izzy's all "wow, this is so amazing!". I mean, what a guy. ^_^;; It also drove home how useless Patamon is. Sorry, don't get me wrong, I like Patamon, but still... it can fly so you'd think it would help TK fly or climb the rope, even if just by flying alongside him and letting TK hold onto him or something. When they climbed the rope, all Patamon did was climb it too, looking extremely small and pathetic. When TK was drowning (in the real world, against Megaseadramon), Patamon couldn't even keep him from going under. In the second or third episode, Patamon tells Gabumon that he is stronger than him, so he should try fighting or something. It's weird, I used to think Patamon was the strongest Rookie because he had actually gone into a few battles IN his Rookie stage... some of the early Digimon, Demidevimon, Elecmon... Five previous digidestined, huh. Most interesting. But there are a lot of things on this show I wish would be expanded upon - it's like they create a whole lot of interesting questions and open threads, and they never close them or explain them further. Guess the season is almost over. I wonder what will happen next. It's too much to hope for that we get 02 soon... I did not write an entry for last week's episodes, and I also actually bought the first three episodes a week or two ago, but since I have all these on video I may write an entry later. ^_^.
