![]() ![]() Cody Hida
Digieggs: Knowledge, ReliabilityDigimon: Upamon - Armadillomon - Ankylomon Armour Digimon: Digmon ("drill of power/knowledge"), Submarimon ("guardian of the sea") Japanese name: Hida Iori Images Cody is the new "token short one", but he's a far cry from 01 TK or Kari. Serious and mature beyond his years, he usually has a solemn, suspicious or anxious look on his face. He's also a very careful sort of person. Although he is very small, the others don't seem to feel all that protective towards him; Cody is pretty capable of taking care of himself, and does not have the innocence or softness that makes for a candidate for constant protection, like Kari. ^_^; As a child, his age is rarely reflected in his behaviour, although occasionally he will have less experience in something, and his view of the world is more black-and-white than that of the others. Cody sees things as pretty clearly right or wrong, and has high standards for himself. He has little respect for people who fall far short of his standards; at first he seems to dislike Davis, for example, but the two become friends, Cody sees his good points more, so the two learn to get along okay. Cody's attitude to Ken, on the other hand... the Digimon Emporer was a real focus for Cody's anger - Cody, who has a strong sense of justice and became uncharacteristically fired up when he saw the ill-treatment Digimon were receiving. One scene comes to mind, where Cody lost his temper and hurled his kendo stick at the Emporer. He finds it difficult to forgive, and learning to tolerate Ken is a lesson that is hard for him. Apart from his anger toward villains, Cody is generally fairly calm and peaceable; he doesn't lose his temper a lot, although occasionally he becomes annoyed if he thinks nobody else is doing what they should be. He's a little nervous being with the older kids, and sometimes keeps quiet for fear of being a bother, or being laughed at. This is a shame because he does have good ideas; he just isn't taken so seriously because he's younger. He is smart, and quite curious, he likes to ask questions about things. I haven't seen much evidence of this, but a couple of characters on the show have said it, so... ^_^;; He gets along with Izzy and Joe best out of the original digidestined; Joe, particularly, is almost like his big brother or even a father figure. Joe knows how to deal with Cody, and takes him seriously; he knows the right tone to take with him. Cody respects Joe, recognising in him a sense of honesty and fair play that resembles his own. Cody's father died some time ago, and he now lives with his mother and grandfather. His grandfather also teaches him kendo, at which Cody is quite good. Cody has a lot of respect for his grandfather and his advice, which is always sound. He inherited his moral standards, I suppose, because it is his grandfather who teaches him that it is unforgivable to lie, that manners are the most important thing a man can have, and that Cody must rely on himself so that others can rely on him. Cody's partner is Armadillomon, who is a lot more easy-going than Cody; he's good-natured, friendly and peaceable, and he is a good influence on Cody. I think he helps him to relax a little bit, at least. Armadillomon has a lot of faith in Cody; everyone does, really - he's very responsible, does not back out of promises, and can be depended on. Rarely does Cody open up, or show much emotion, or say what he's feeling. One time he confessed his fear of the ocean, because they were trapped underwater and he was trembling in fear so bad that he couldn't really keep it to himself. In that situation, the others did try to protect him a bit, and when they had the opportunity to send one person to the surface, they chose him. Cody, who is extremely stubborn, refused all pleas, insults, demands and tricks, finally had to be forcibly ejected by Davis and TK. ^_^;; He said he would stay and face his fear instead. Cody is a pretty brave kid; occasionally he does show child-like enthusiasm over things, like the thought of getting another digiegg, and when Submarimon showed him the beauty of the ocean. But there is always a strange air of restraint about him; he's unnaturally serious and cold. This isn't necessarily such a bad thing; it has a good balancing effect on the team in general, as most of the other digidestined are fairly emotional.
