![]() ![]() Intro to 02
That is, until the digital gate reopens! The digital world is in trouble - a mean kid who calls himself the Digimon Emporer is trying to take over digiworld, capturing and controlling Digimon. He does this with his patented 'dark rings', and 'control spires' which transmit negative energy to the rings, controlling any Digimon that wear them. Three new children at Odaiba Elementary become digidestined, receiving new digivices called D-3s. Only these D-3s can open the digital gate. The new digidestined also have the ability to carry 'digieggs' - devices bearing crests that can only be lifted by one person, and which unlock the technique known as 'armour digivolving'. Because you see, this Digimon Emporer has a D-3 too, but his is a dark digivice that makes all Digimon in the areas of his control unable to digivolve. Kari and TK's digivices change to D-3s, enabling them to be part of the new team of digidestined. The five children, Kari, TK, Davis, Yolei and Cody, travel to the digiworld through a computer in their elementary school's computer club room. By day, they are the mild-mannered school students, playing soccer or fixing computers or learning kendo. By... er, afternoon, they are the only hope of another world, engaging in mortal battle against the Emporer and his controlled Digimon. (Forgive me, I needed the opportunity to practise my melodrama. ^_^.) The five children stay with their Digimon at all times; the Digimon come to school with them and hide out during the day, and they stay at home with them at night. This gives the show a generally lighter feel than the first season had. Sometimes, the old digidestined will accompany the new digidestined to the digital world. The original six need one of the new kids to open the gate for them, and their partners can't digivolve in areas where there is a control spire, but they can still help in other ways. And that is how the series begins...
